Language Stars offers play-based foreign language programs for kids in fifteen locations in the Chicago area. We offer full-immersion Spanish, Mandarin Chinese, French, Italian, and German classes.  Our native-speaking teachers immerse children in target language using a high-energy mix of activities.  Our hands on teaching and play-based training will make learning fun for your child!

The Window of Opportunity

Between birth and adolescence the brain is hard-wired to acquire language naturally, and the ease of learning a second language diminishes with age. Taking advantage of this window of opportunity by exposing your child to a second language young allows a child to optimize his or her learning potential, helping to shape the brain at its most flexible stage.  According to The Wall Street Journal, "learning a second language later in life is fundamentally different from learning it early in life.... Toddlers who learn a second language along with their native tongue store this capability in a single sector in the brain...but if the second language is acquired later—say, in a French class in high school—the brain designates a separate area for processing it.... those who learn two languages at a young age retain an [unique] ability to speak both as if each was their native tongue."

  • Learning a second language at a young age is cognitively as easy as learning a first language.
  • A child's brain processes multiple languages in parallel paths, building a second language system alongside the first.
  • A young learner can access a second language separately, without having to translate, or go through the native language as a path.
  • An older learner (after puberty) stores new languages in a separate area of the brain, requiring translation and explicit grammar training to learn.
  • The diminishing plasticity of the brain makes early learning optimal.

Parents and Tots Programs

1-3 years old

Learning a second language as an infant or toddler is as easy as learning to walk, between birth and the age three the brain is developing crucial pathways and connections, hard-wiring it to acquire language naturally.  During this small time frame, infants and toddlers are able to acquire native-like accent.  These programs focus on building foundational vocabulary from the early on.  Learning topics such as colors, food, or body parts are featured in each week’s curriculum.  All songs, games, activities, snacks, and art projects are centered on the learning topic for the week to reinforce what children are learning.

Kids only Programs

These full immersions programs are built to captivate, engage, entertain, and educate your child through age appropriate context and structure.  We track and communicate individual language learning process regularly.  Students can attend classes weekly or twice a week.  Kids absorb and practice language with games, drama, art & crafts, snack time and more!  Classes are offered on a small group basis, between 4-8 children, which fosters individualized learning.

Summer Programs

In addition to our academic year options, Language Stars offers exciting camp options during the summer to continue the fun and learning! Our camps for ages 3-8 combine outdoor play with our FunImmersion® method and are offered in 85-minute or three hour time blocks, with a variety of scheduling options.
