Midwifery Practice / Physician Collaborative

West Suburban Midwife Associates is a unique CNM (Certified Nurse Midwife)-owned midwifery practice, one of the few in Illinois. We are not governed by hospital, community health center or physician employment, which allows us to give the power of birth back you—the expectant mother—with support and encouragement from the midwives!

Through our collaboration with two board-certified Ob/Gyns, we ensure physician coverage 24 hours a day, seven days a week in the unlikely event a pregnancy becomes complicated or a cesarean section is needed.
In addition to our well woman care, we offer natural, nutritional herbal and homeopathic options and utilize acupuncture, chiropractic care, and hypnosis for pregnancy symptom relief, turning breech presentations and postdates management.

The Birth Center

We attend births in the Alternative Birthing Center rooms at West Suburban Hospital in Oak Park. Our philosophy is that it is ultimately your birth, and our role is to insure safe passage for mothers and their babies.

We encourage women to move: to walk, rock, sway, squat, or dance, to eat and drink throughout the labor process, and labor and deliver in the position that is most comfortable to you.  Our midwives utilize non-intervention therapies to help labor progress naturally, such as hydrotherapy, optimal positioning, music, therapeutic touch and labor support.

Following birth, we encourage immediate breastfeeding. Routine newborn procedures can be delayed or declined... your choice!

Waterbirth & VBAC Specialization

West Suburban Midwives is proud to be one of the few practices offering waterbirth in the greater Chicago area. Waterbirth allows mothers greater comfort and mobility, minimized pain, deeper relaxation and lowered blood pressure.

In addition, we are strong supporters of Vaginal Birth After Cesarean (VBAC), having a high success rate for vaginal birth. We ARE able to attend primary VBAC patients (first vaginal birth after cesarean) as well as women who have had at least one successful vaginal birth after cesarean.

West Suburban Midwife Associates accepts all commercial insurance, HMO, and offers a discount for the uninsured / self-pay option.
