Chiropractic for Mom & Baby

Pregnancy Chiropractic

Pregnancy can bring new experiences, and being educated on all options you have during your pregnancy is important. There are many decisions to make about who will deliver the baby, whether to deliver in a hospital or birthing center, and deciding if you should have a pregnancy chiropractor. A pregnancy chiropractor is someone who has post-graduate training in how to educate moms on healthy eating, but also how to educate the patient on having the healthiest pregnancy. Chiropractors do not play the role of the Ob/Gyn or midwife, but are complimentary care to them.

Chiropractors offer non-invasive and non-medicated ways to achieve pain relief associated with pregnancy, such as pain in the hips, lower back, and anterior pubic bone pain that can lead patients to have difficulty walking, sleeping on their side (due to pain), and getting around the house.

The Webster Technique

Chiropractors that are Webster Technique certified have post graduate training in how to analyze, and gently adjust the lower back and pelvis. The Webster Technique was first developed by Dr. Webster over 30 years ago, when his daughter was experiencing dystocia during labor. Dystocia is the slowing of labor due to many factors. Dr. Webster’s daughter had dystocia, due to the baby presenting in the breech position. The doctor analyzed her pelvis and sacrum, adjusted the pelvis, and within minutes the baby was able to turn head down. Dr. Webster spent many years researching this technique and discovered that the mal-positioned sacrum can cause intra-uterine constraint. Chiropractic care also reduces nerve interference, and allows proper nervous system communication.

Pediatric Chiropractic

Chiropractic care has also been shown to help improve nervous system irritation in babies and children. Many different environmental factors affect your children and their developing nervous system. Food allergies are the number one external factor that agitates the nervous system. It has been well known that a breastfeeding mother who eats certain foods will notice that her baby will experience more fussiness and gas. Other external factors such as vaccines, falls, and stress can agitate the nervous system. The chiropractic adjustment calms the nervous system, allowing a greater capacity to deal with nervous system interference and stress. Chiropractic care for children has been researched by the ICPA for many years and the safety of chiropractic care for children can be found on the ICPA4kids.org website.

Whether you’re looking for pain relief, education on how to raise a healthier child, or worried about your baby presenting in a breech position; chiropractic care is something to consider for your family. Chiropractors do not replace the role of a pediatrician, or Ob/Gyn, but rather serve as great alternative holistic practitioners for your whole family.
