Choosing a Breastpump

Breastfeeding is a natural process but is not free of complications or adjustments. Like any art, it takes practice, dedication and the best of tools. Whether you're planning to return to work or are planning to stay home, you may find the need to purchase a breastpump. Not all breastpumps are created equal, so it is important to consider your needs along with your choice of pumps. There are many styles and brands of breastpumps on the market today with a variety of prices. In order to have a successful pumping experience, it is very important to find a breast pump that works safely, comfortably, naturally and as easily as possible.

When choosing a breastpump, keep the following thoughts in mind:

  1. How often will you be using your breastpump? (i.e., several times a day, once a week, etc.)
  2. If returning to work, will electrical outlets be available? How much space and time will you have? Will a more portable pump be necessary?
  3. Is the pump comfortable and efficient? Is the pump safe and easy to clean?
