Before You Choose a Nanny

Choosing the right nanny for your family can be made easier if you ask yourself the following questions:

  1. Does the nanny possess her Act 33/34 clearances? Are they current?
  2. Does she have her infant & child CPR certification?
  3. Does she have excellent references?
  4. Does she drive and have a car? Is she a driver?
  5. Is she a non-smoker?
  6. Is she aware of and responsive to the many developmental stages of infants & children?
  7. Is she warm and caring?
  8. Is she eager to follow your guidelines for healthy and supportive discipline necessary for the development of positive self-esteem and social skills?
  9. Does she enjoy playing with children?
  10. Is she ready to explore the neighborhood and local geographic areas for libraries, museums, playgrounds, and exciting nature walks with your child?
  11. Are we as a family willing to pay the nanny the typical salary for her education and experience?
  12. Will we as a family express our respect and appreciation for the job that the nanny will perform?
