Stroller Safety
According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), over
11,000 children are rushed to emergency rooms each year from injuries
related to strollers. Carriers and car seats are the only juvenile products
responsible for more injuries. The CPSC lists recalled products from baby
monitors to toys for the bathtub on their website, www.cpsc.gov. Do not
use products if they have been recalled. Contact the manufacturer or CPSC
at 800-638-2772 to find our how to comply with recalls. Be sure to return
product registration cards so that the manufacturer can contact you directly
in case of a recall.
- Follow the manufacturer's instructions on assembly, care and use.
- Ensure that latches are fully engaged prior to use. Children have
been injured when strollers appear to be fully set up yet collapse when
they hit a bump.
- Don't overload the stroller it may cause it to tip.
- Always use restraints in the manufacturer's recommended use position.
When using a carriage or a stroller in a fully reclined position for
an infant, make sure there are no openings a child could slip fully
or partially through.
- Never leave a child unattended in a stroller it is not a safe
environment for sleeping or playing.
- When folding or unfolding a stroller, please keep children away to
avoid pinched fingers.
