3D/4D Ultrasound
The New View

Testimonial: "It was so wonderful to be able to peek in and see how my baby moves around, smiles and yawns. This was a wonderful experience and I would recommend this to anyone. It was amazing to see that this baby already looks like big brother! We are so anxious now to hold this child." —Signed L.B.

Expectant mothers nationwide are seeking elective 3D ultrasound because they feel it will have a positive impact during their pregnancy.  Recent studies have shown that viewing an ultrasound can cause marked improvement in maternal health habits.  Studies presented at the American Institute of Ultrasound Medicine (AIUM) meeting have even supported that 3D ultrasound will positively influence parents bond with their babies.

The psychological and emotional benefits of ultrasound have shown that  mothers tend to improve their diets, exercise more and eliminate harmful behaviors. Other ultrasound benefits may also include increased paternal involvement, family support, and an overall appreciation for the pregnancy.

Ultrasound has come a long way in the last 30 years. The traditional 2D ultrasound, which provides a "flat" black and white still image which resembles an x-ray, works by "listening" to sound in a single plain. An analogy would be that similar to slicing a loaf of bread and looking at the face of the bread. In 3D ultrasound the same sound waves are sent down as used in 2D- this time at a different angle and then interpreted through sophisticated software through a process called "surface rendering". Using the same "bread" analogy, the surface of the loaf is now being visualized in amazing detail.

Finding a responsible 3D ultrasound center should be top priority of the parents seeking an elective 3D ultrasound. A responsible ultrasound center will require proof of active prenatal care and the completion of a medical ultrasound. Scans should be performed by certified/ licensed technicians. Aside from the entertaining aspects of 3D/4D ultrasound, safety and professionalism should always remain paramount in choosing where to have your 3D ultrasound performed.
