On your wonderful journey from pregnancy through becoming new parents, you and your family can take advantage of the many services and programs to help you prepare for your exciting new role. When it is time for your new arrival, our outstanding physicians and birthing staff will work with you to provide a memorable childbirth experience. And we continue to support you, even after you go home.
We offer a wide array of programs for expecting parents - from Beginnings (Early Pregnancy) program to Prepared Childbirth Classes, to Newborn Care Classes, all taught by certified and knowledgeable instructors, as well as Tours of the Center.
All our Obstetrics are board-certified. They are assisted by a highly skilled and caring group of Registered Nurses, Physician Assistants, and Technicians. Board-certified Neonatologists are available 24 hours a day, if needed to care for premature or sick babies in our state-of-the art Newborn Intensive Care Unit.
Our Midwifery Services was one of the first in the area. Our four certified nurse midwives deliver about 300 babies each year, and have offices within Norwalk Hospital for their patients' convenience.
Our facilities include the Antenatal Diagnostic Center, with one of the very first maternal ultrasound units in the United States to receive accreditation from the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine. Our Perinatologist is ready to help manage high risk pregnancies, and we provide a full genetic screening and counseling service. We also offer first-trimester screening for Down Syndrome, allowing earlier assessment of risk.
As the miracle of birth progresses, our seven private birthing rooms are equipped with the latest technology needed to accommodate any birth in a warm, nurturing environment. Your birthing room has a private bathroom with shower and comfortable accommodations for your coach. Anesthesiologists are available 24-hours a day, seven days a week to provide a full-range of options to ensure your comfort during labor. Should the need arise, cesarean delivery suites are available just down the hall within the Labor and Delivery area.
After you deliver, you and your baby will recover in the comfortable and home-like setting of our post-partum area. Each private room is equipped with a bathroom with shower, comfortable rockers, and recliners which convert to sleepers for Dad, flat-screen TV, wireless internet, and a telephone. For help with feeding and caring for your infant we offer a daily class, and our Lactation Consultants provide individualized support.
Before you go home, stop in to our Women's Health Resource Center. Our free lending library contains loads of information on baby-care and parenting. We are also a Medela Breast Pump rental station and carry Symphony breast pumps and breastfeeding accessories.
You can enroll in one of our many classes for mom and baby, which include Infant Massage and the Fourth-Trimester, our weekly support group.
