St. Louis Children’s Hospital is dedicated to improving the health
and lives of children. The hospital provides care in more than 50 specialty
areas with the help of a dedicated team of physicians, nurses, staff and
volunteers. Along with inpatient and outpatient medical care, St. Louis
Children’s Hospital offers education, wellness and injury-prevention
programs that help the hospital fulfill its mission to “do what’s
right for kids.”
Founded in 1879, St. Louis Children’s Hospital is the seventh oldest pediatric hospital in the United States and the oldest west of the Mississippi. Over 275,000 children across a 300-mile service area receive care each year at Children’s Hospital. In the last five years, the hospital has seen patients from all 50 states and 51 countries.
Both Child magazine and U.S. News & World Report list St. Louis Children’s Hospital as one of America’s best pediatric hospitals. The hospital’s academic and physician partner, Washington University School of Medicine, is ranked the #3 medical school in the country by U.S. News. The School of Medicine is a national leader in education, training, research and pediatric scholarship.
National and international centers of excellence include the world’s largest pediatric lung transplant program, the largest team of pediatric epilepsy specialists, the most comprehensive Cerebral Palsy (CP) Center in the country, and the largest selective dorsal rhizotomy surgical program for children with CP. The hospital’s focus on pain management is illustrated by its operation of an “ouchless emergency unit.”
St. Louis Children’s Hospital is a member of BJC HealthCare, one of the nation’s largest healthcare organizations, with 26,000 employees in the greater St. Louis, southern Illinois and mid-Missouri regions.
