The Birth Center is not a hospital or a wing or a unit of a hospital, but rather an intimate homelike environment designed exclusively to support a gentle, natural approach to birth with certified nurse-midwives.

The Birth Center is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing Philadelphia moms-to-be with an alternative in which pregnancy and birth are viewed as normal and healthy events of family life. Like most independent Birth Centers in the United States, our cesarean section rate averages about 8% compared to a national average of over 20%. Our rate of episiotomies is also impressively low. These statistics, along with our strong focus on early infant bonding and family participation, make us an attractive birthing option for many women.

We are located directly across the street from Bryn Mawr Hospital, which serves as our back-up facility. Prenatal and GYN visits are available at The Birth Center in Bryn Mawr and at our satellite office in Exton.

Our services are covered by most insurance plans and financial assistance is available.
