decisions about your care. We support and nurture you and encourage your
participation.
Our Clients
Our clients are healthy women from adolescence thru menopause. Not only
will we care for you during pregnancy can have an appointment for gyn
care, annual exams, family planning, and preconception counseling.
Prenatal Care with the Nurse Midwives
Throughout your pregnancy you will have appointments with each of the
nurse midwives. At the first appointment, the process of prenatal care
and birth will be discussed. All of your questions will be addressed.
The follow up visits will consist of monitoring the growth of your baby,
checking the baby's heart beat, and assessing your pregnancy for
possible complications. This will also include some routine lab work.
At each visit there will be adequate time to answer your questions and
provide education about your pregnancy and childbirth. We feel that it
is important to develop both a professional and personal relationship
with you.
The Birth
We attend births at St Luke's Episcopal Hospital and at The Methodist
Hospital in the Texas Medical Center. When it is time for the birth, the
on call nurse midwife will be with you in the hospital to provide support
during your labor. Whether it is a medication free birth that you desire
or a medicated birth, the nurse midwife will guide and coach you and your
family while monitoring the health of you and your baby. We encourage
you to be active during labor which helps the birth to progress naturally.
Activities in labor may include, walking, sitting on the birthing ball,
bathing, and the use of different positions. We enjoy the participation
of family and significant others during labor and birth. When the baby
arrives, they are given to you immediately for skin on skin contact. After
the birth, we will help you with breastfeeding within the first hour.
